What is the difference between a stimulant and osmotic laxative?

They both work in different ways. A stimulant laxative works by stimulating the bowel muscles to promote a bowel movement whereas an osmotic laxative works by using water naturally present in the colon to soften the stools to make passing stools more comfortable. 2

Do women suffer from constipation more than men?

Yes. There is evidence to show that women are more likely to experience constipation more than men.2
